Welcome to BioplasticFoodWrap, where I am committed to changing the way you think about food storage with my innovative bioplastic wraps. My Name is Miles Elliot. I am a senior in high school where I play tuba in the marching band. I hopes to become a physical therapist specializing in sports medicine. Outside of school, I spend time with my family and friends and playing video games.
My Mission
At BioplasticFoodWrap, my mission is to lead the way in sustainable food storage solutions. I am dedicated to producing bioplastic wraps that are both effective and environmentally responsible.
My Project
While many others have created their own plastics using potatoes, my plastic is different using alfalfa and kelp as fiber and glue. I performed two tests with my bio plastic and with regular plastic food wrap. One was a strength test and the second was a freshness test. For the first test, I got a cube of plastic food wrap, put it over a bowl, masking tape over the sides, and placed a quarter on the top until it broke. I did the same with my own bioplastic. I recorded the results and there was a 17.8% difference where my bioplastic did worse than the regular plastic food wrap. While strength is not important with plastic food wrap it is important to know how much it can hold. For the second test, it was a freshness test. I grabbed two bananas: one with the plastic food wrap; another with my own bioplastic. I placed them in the fridge for a week and recorded the results. At the end there was a 57.4% difference where my bioplastic did worse than the plastic wrap.
